The Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, OK Movement, has announced its stance to preserve its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections, rejecting any attempts to surrender its organisation to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Director-General of the OK Movement, John Ughulu, emphasised that the movement would not allow the NDC or any other entity to take over its national, state, Local Government, and Ward structures.
Ughulu’s remark followed comments made by Senator Seriake Dickson, NDC’s National Leader, while discussing the role of support groups in the 2027 campaign.
Dickson asserted that political groups should support, not compete with, the main party, and should operate within their proper roles.
The Bayelsa West Senator, speaking at the unveiling of Babachir Lawal in Abuja, criticised the OK Movement’s decision to form a presidential campaign council, calling it “unheard of” and “nonsensical.”

He stated that while the NDC would continue collaborating with support groups, these groups must adhere to their designated roles.
However, Ughulu clarified that the OK Movement is distinct from typical support groups, characterising it as an independent political organisation.
He maintained, “The OK Movement is not a support group created as an appendage of any political party. It is independently organised, managed, and structured through its own mechanisms.”
Ughulu also dismissed Dickson’s view on the campaign council, explaining that the movement comprises members from different parties supporting candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
“It is not nonsensical,” he insisted, adding that politics has evolved beyond traditional systems.
He reiterated the movement’s commitment to remaining organizationally autonomous, asserting that its support for the NDC candidates does not imply organisational subordination.
“The OK Movement remains an independent entity, with its own structures and management, which it will retain.”
The Director-General emphasised that the movement reserves the right to establish its own campaign and mobilisation structures and that this does not violate any party rules or provisions.
